History of Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization
Since its opening in the Al-Majarah region in central Sharjah in 2006, the Sharjah Museums Authority has held an annual celebration on June 6 to honour the first Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, which serves as an incubator for thousands of archaeological collections that testify to the greatness and nobility of Islamic civilization dating back to the first century.
Supreme Council Member and Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, ordered on November 6, 1996, the first opening of the Islamic Museum in the historic region to display an important and distinctive collection of Islamic antiquities.
A new Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization was opened to the public on June 6, 2008 in the former Al-Majarah Market building, which was constructed in 1987 to international museum standards and methods that incorporate modern options and services made possible by technological advances.
More than 5,000 objects gathered from all over the Islamic world have been displayed in six sections of the museum since its inception, each of which tells the storey of a day in Islamic civilisation when the sun shone brightly and illuminated the world. ABU BAKR GALLERY OF THE ISLAMIC FAITH
